Kiss ups, or individuals who excessively compliment someone in order to gain favor or advantage, can be described using a multitude of synonyms. Some common alternatives include brown nosers, flatterers, sycophants, toadies, fawners, bootlickers, and crawlers. These terms all carry a negative connotation and suggest insincerity in the individual's actions. Furthermore, kiss ups may also be referred to as ass-kissers, apple-polishers, or even social climbers. No matter the term used, however, it is clear that individuals who engage in this behavior are often viewed as disingenuous and lacking in integrity.
