Ovibos Moschatus is a scientific name for the arctic mammal better known as the muskox. The term "muskox" can be considered a synonym, but there are other common names for the animal as well. In Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit people, the muskox is known as "umimmat" or "tuktu." The Dene people of northern Canada call it "vimsigak." Some other synonyms in English include "oomingmak" (a name used by native Alaskans), "moss ox," and "arctic ox." Despite its name, the muskox is not actually related to the ox family, but rather to goats and sheep.
